Tucked deep within the wild heart of the Thornybush Game Reserve, Madash Lodge was a project unlike any other.

This extraordinary build pushed our team to new heights—technically, logistically, and sometimes, quite literally. With elephant herds wandering nearby, buffalo grazing just beyond the site boundary, and lions occasionally pausing to observe the progress, every day was a careful balancing act between precision and respect for the surrounding wilderness.

The architectural vision for Madash was bold: expansive steel structures, meticulously laid rock cladding, and clean, modern lines that still whispered the language of the bush. The result? A strikingly sophisticated lodge that seamlessly blends into its natural surroundings—raw, elegant, and timeless.

Building in such a remote, wildlife-rich location came with its fair share of drama. One unforgettable moment involved a curious hyena sneaking into a nearly completed chalet while the interiors team from Fox Browne Creative were moving in furniture. The intruder left its mark—chomping a headboard, gnawing at chair legs, and leaving chaos in its wake. Fortunately, the team took it in stride, and the story has become a favourite among those who brought this lodge to life.

From the heavy lifting of enormous steel beams to the hand-finishing of intricate stonework, every detail was a testament to the skill, grit, and collaboration of everyone involved. The final product is not just a lodge, but a celebration of endurance, design excellence, and respect for place.
